Job Description

 

Do you want to shape the future for green energy?  Do you want to be part of building Vestas new Design Centre?  Are you interested in making green energy safe to work with, by developing system for controlling and operating new wind turbine solutions? Then you might be the right candidate for the position as Functional Safety Engineer.

 

Control Software is a part of Vestas Power Solutions and we are responsible for delivering application, framework and safety software solutions to all Vestas turbines. As R&D Engineer you will be a part this department and a key part of its success

The ideal candidate has a passion for making Automated machines safe to work with. You have great stakeholder management and interpersonal skills at both a technical and non-technical level. You have excellent problem-solving skills and possess the ability to manage conflicting priorities and multiple tasks.

You are a resilient team player who is goal-orientated and demonstrates a high level of commitment with the ability to work under minimal supervision. You are customer-orientated, whether responding to support queries or developing new functionalities.

Moreover, it is essential that you have strong analytical skills and are detail oriented, enabling you to deliver results. You are a Team player, able to successfully prioritize multiple tasks and timelines, to accurately meet deadlines.

You are culturally open-minded, a good communicator and able to establish relationships across geographical boundaries and cultures. You have excellent written and verbal English skills with people at all levels across the organization.

Responsibilities

As Functional Safety Engineer, you will:

Be engaged in the early stage feasibility studies of new products working together with integration of other engineering disciplines like converter, electrical, hydraulic, mechanical etc.
Involvement in risk assessment and development of new safety compliance approaches
Define functional requirements definition of the turbine's control systems according to safety standards
Ensure that the Functional Safety solutions is in compliance with international standards
Be committed in writing and updating comprehensive technical documentation and maintaining safety software and hardware requirements
Support safety software team's during development lifecycle
Test and validate Functional Safety solutions on system level
Create end-user documentation and market documentation

 

Qualifications

You have:

Engineering degree related to Automation or Functional safety
Experience with electrical systems and/or mechanicals systems
Experience with working with Design, Construction or Troubleshooting on Automated machines
Experience making design according to international standards
Excellent in written and oral communication in English
It's an advantage to have:

Experience with Functional Safety standards (ISO 13849 or IEC 62061)
Experience with design according to Machine directive (EU Directive 2006/42/EEC)
Experience with integration between Electrical, Hydraulic and mechanical Systems and Software

Additional information

Work location will be at the Vestas Power Solutions newly established hub in Porto, Portugal.

About 25 days of travel per year must be expected and probably more the first year.
