The Portuguese government provides free Portuguese language courses for foreigners, both in public schools and in employment and vocational training centres of the Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional (IEFP), the Portuguese institute of employment and vocational training. The duration of the courses is 150 hours and the time of completion depends on the organization of each promoter and on the number of hours of training per week.
